Children’s lives at risk after massive earthquake in Myanmar

On Friday, March 28, 2025, a devastating earthquake measuring 7.7 on the Richter scale struck Myanmar. The consequences were dramatic: hundreds dead, thousands injured and a health care system unable to cope with the influx of victims. The emergency is unprecedented and requires urgent aid

The situation on the ground

In Myanmar, the health care system is already fragile under normal circumstances. Now, with hospitals damaged and without electricity, the situation threatens to be catastrophic. Clean drinking water is urgently needed to prevent the spread of diseases such as cholera. There is also a severe shortage of food, shelter and medical care.

Our local neurosurgeon, Dr. Aung Aung Kyaw, working through our partner NeuroKids at Mandalay Hospital, reports that the influx of injured people is unprecedented. The facilities cannot handle the pressure and there is an urgent need for relief supplies and financial support.

Children and people with disabilities especially vulnerable

As in other disasters, children are the biggest victims. Especially children with disabilities risk being forgotten in this crisis. When hospitals have to make choices, they are often the first to be left out. This is heartbreaking and unacceptable.

That is why Child-Help desperately needs your help.
